Eateries in Chicago

F.Y.I, Upon Exiting the Palmer House Hilton at the State Street exit right is North and left is South.  When in doubt, remember that the Lake as well as Michigan avenue are East.  Furthermore, the DePaul center is at State and Jackson, facing North, and the DePaul CTI building is at the corner of Wabash and Jackson facing West.  You will become very familiar with those two buildings.

Expensive

Monday's

(312) 408-1120

Restaurant immediately to the right side of the DePaul center.  Downstaris is the Blue Demon room with DePaul memorabilia on display.  Moderate.

Viola
Address unknown
(312) 580-9500

Across the street from the Schubert theater on Monroe. Simply go left (West) from the Monroe street exit of the Palmer House until you find it. Good French food. Moderate.

Wall Street Deli
1 E. Jackson
(312) 913-0870

Deli Sandwhiches on the bottom floor of the DePaul Center. Across from My Thai. Moderate.

Corner Bakery
224 S. Michigan Ave.
(312) 431-8047

From the DePaul CTI Building go around the corner and East (right) on Jackson, then left on Michigan. Some people swear by this chain restaurant, others could take it or leave it. Moderate.

Beyond Words
400 S. State
(312) 922-7743

Cafe on top of the Harold Washington Library. Head South on State, if you miss the library head for the nearest eye doctor. It's the big red building just past the DePaul center on your right.

Under 55
55 E. Monroe
(312) 849-9512

Underneath the "Crown Books" building at 55 E. Adams. Go into the large building and take the escalators down to the basement for better than normal cafeteria-deli style food. Moderate to Budget.

Palmer House Grill
Inside the Palmer House

Moderate.

My Thai
1 E. Jackson
(312) 986-0999

In the DePaul Center, near the rear on the first floor.  Spicy pasta dishes, "Thai Food".  Moderate.

Budget

Taza
39 S. Wabash Ave.
(312) 425-9988

Good inexpensive food. Chicken dishes are a specialty. At the corner of Adams and Wabash. Budget.

DePaul Cafeteria
1 E. Jackson
No phone number available

On the top floor of the DePaul Center. Better than your average school cafeteria. Budget.

Sbarro's
1 E. Jackson
(312) 663-1070

Under the DePaul center, next to My Thai. Good fast Italian food. Budget.

Fast Foo's
28 E. Jackson Blvd.
(312) 360-1701

Across from the DePaul Center. Fast Chinese food. Popular, but stick to the beef. Budget.

Panda Express
77 E. Adams
(312) 922-6411

Next to Russian Tea Time, this also popular Chinese place serves more vegetable oriented food than Fast Foo's. I prefer Fast Foo's. Budget.

McDonalds
64 E. Jackson
(312) 431-0300

Two are nearby, the one listed here is directly next to the DePaul CTI building. That gets crowded, and if you find a long wait, then try the one on State Street, just by the corner of Jackson and State. Budget.

Schlotzsky's
27 E. Adams
(312) 987-1804

A chain restaurant specializing in deli fast food. On Adams, between State and Wabash. Budget.

Krystyna's Cafe
8 E. Jackson
(312) 922-9225

Small "French" Cafe.  Crossiants, expressos and such.  Budget.

Pizza

Giordano's
236 S. Wabash Ave.
(312) 939-4646

Across from the DePaul CTI building next to ExChequer. Excellent stuffed spinach pizza. Our organizing committee chair is a regular there. Moderate.

Gino's East
160 E. Superior
(312) 943-1124

On Superior just off Michigan Avenue, on the Magnificent Mile. If you decide to do some shopping you must eat here. In my opinion this is the single best pizza in Chicago. Therefore if you eat here nothing else will suffice afterwards. Note: P.S. do not, I repeat do not even if you are starving to death, eat at the California Pizza kitchen in Water Tower.  This goes for Wolfgang Puck's too, at least for pizza. Moderate to Expensive.

Lou Malnatti's
439 N. Wells
(312) 828-9800

Another of our famous pizzarias, this one with a little different flavor.  Highly recommended, but a bit of a walk.   Try a cab, but if you want to get some exercise then exit the Palmer House on the Monroe exit.  Walk North (left) until you hit Wells (3-4 blocks), then make a right.  From here it is about 5 more blocks.

Chicago's Pizza
3017 N. Sheffield
(773) 477-2777

When you just want delivery this is the pace to call.  Open until 5 AM, they serve excellent deep dish and thin crust pizzas.
